In a 2023 survey by the Department of Transport, 87% of air passengers surveyed said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their experience of security screening. As a package holiday provider, this is fantastic for us to hear, as we want all our customers to have a stress-free holiday from the minute they search for their dream break to their journey home.
But sometimes, things don’t always go to plan, and getting through security can take a little longer than expected! Following the 2024 survey, we hope to see an increase in the percentage of customers who are satisfied or very satisfied with their experience. We know it won’t always be perfect, but we’re here to help make it as easy as possible for you. That’s why we’ve decided to share our top tips when it comes to breezing through security screening.
Security Fast Track
Our number one way to beat the long queues and be in the departure lounge sipping on a pre-flight drink sooner, is to book a security fast track pass for you and your family. Although it’s pretty unlikely that you’re the only person who has booked one, there’ll be a lot less people in your queue than in the normal one. Holiday Extras is a great site to grab your fast track passes on, and there’s often discount codes floating around online to save yourself even more pennies!
Check Your Bags
One of the main things holding you up at security will be what you have stashed in your bag! Forget about that lipstick in your zipped compartment, a half used bottle of perfume, even that last bit of water you were saving for the plane…they will all add on precious minutes to your security experience. You can’t carry any liquids over 100ml, unless its for something like baby milk, and all liquids need to be in a see through plastic bag, and popped into the tray for screening.
Your electronics also need to be removed from your bag and popped into a tray too. Don’t forget to check your trouser pockets to make sure you haven’t stashed your phone in there by accident. Sometimes you may be asked to stand to one side while a member of the security team pat you down. Don’t be concerned, they’re just checking you don’t have anything you shouldn’t then you can be on your way.
Travelling With Kids
With little ones in tow, getting through the airport has the potential to be a chaotic experience. Many of the Holiday Hypermarket team have families, and we all agree on one thing, having a designated airport dad (or mum!)
One person has full responsibility for the cases and bags, one person has responsibility for the kids – this way the adults aren’t rushing around trying to do the same job and something gets left behind by accident, although it would be a pretty peaceful flight with the little ones left at security…
Airport Lounges
Okay, we get it, this one doesn’t strictly speaking help to make your security experience any faster, but it does offer a bit of respite if the process has taken longer than you’d like. Airport lounges add a touch of luxury to your airport experience, and after a busy day of travelling, then it could be just the thing you need.
Once you’ve paid for your lounge pass, everything once you arrive is included in your package. There’s a delicious buffet of food, with some options fresh to order, which is a nice touch instead of queuing for an expensive fast food restaurant! There’s also a wide selection of soft drinks available, as well as hot options and alcoholic ones too. If you’re interested in adding an airport lounge experience to your holiday, then visit our holiday extras page.
