Summer is fast approaching and many of you will no doubt be looking forward to lying back on golden, black, or white sands, listening to the comforting sound of the sea as it gently laps the shore. If you haven’t already booked your beach holiday, here are some of our favourites around the world to get you in the mood. Picture yourself basking in the warm glow of the sun, sampling local cuisine, sipping cocktails, scuba diving and dancing until dawn (if that’s your thing)…because after all #SummerIsComing!
50 shades of pink in the Caribbean
Empty and pristine, Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island in the Bahamas will give you that washed up on a desert island feel. Perfect for day trips, sip a cold Caribbean beer to round off your experience. The sand really is beautifully pink, stretching for three-and-a-half miles!
Celebrity spotting in Tulum
Idyllic and filled with natural wonders, Mexico’s Tulum beach is a magical place for those looking to spot local wildlife, including turtles. Keep your eyes peeled for celebrities too as Tulum has long been favoured by the rich including Drew Barrymore, Sienna Miller and Ryan Phillipe.
A Turkish retreat
Off the beaten track and formed by a gorge, Kaputas can be accessed via a long flight of steps. Take along your own refreshments and sun protection as there are not too many facilities here. This beach is great if you are hiring a car, but you can also take the bus to Patara to enjoy jumping over the waves.
Saharan sand in the Canaries
Tenerife’s beaches are not all formed from black volcanic sand and, in fact, Las Teresitas boasts imported grains of gold from the Sahara. Stroll through the fishing village of San Andres and dine on fresh seafood to complete your day here.
Cape Verde: Artists’ paradise
Sao Vicente has long inspired writers, musicians and artists, who come to gaze out to sea as well as explore the cultured city. Windsurfers also flock to Sao Pedro and Sandy Beach for the fantastic waves.
Spain’s family favourite
Torremolinos has been revamped in recent years so that the promenade is now lined with trees and gardens and package holidays are still great value for money. Families can enjoy a traditional bucket-and-spade beach trip in this region of the Costa del Sol.
Palm-lined Gambian beaches
Adventurers should head to Gambia’s Cape Point Beach where water sports abound. From jet skiing to canoeing, windsurfing and sailing, there are plenty of activities to enjoy on Gambia package holidays- and for those who prefer to relax, it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world to lie back on peaceful sands.
Castles in the sand
With more than 2,000 islands, Greece has an abundance of beaches that’ll leave you feeling spoilt for choice. We’ve selected Frangokastello on Crete, where a mysterious Venetian castle stands guard over the sea, as our favourite. Watch out for ghosts though!
The Emerald Coast
Santa Teresa di Gallura is the jewel in Sardinia’s crown; a stretch of coastline adorned with scenic Italian beaches. Try Cala Spinosa for unique scuba diving amid the granite rocks, or the sheltered bays of Capo Testa, Rena di Ponente and Rena di Levante, lined with lush vegetation.
Party in Ayia Napa
Dance in the foam and enjoy big-name DJs on Nissi Beach. Ayia Napa’s party spirit will soon wear off on you and it is easy to take a break in the beautiful shallow waters – wade out to your waist, stepping onto smooth sand bars, before rejoining the celebrations.
