It’s a beautiful island, there are no two ways about it! But we’ve scoured Instagram to find out where on a Tenerife holiday you think is most worthy of a snap and share. It’s been a struggle getting it down to five locations, but here are Tenerife’s Most Instagrammed Spots.
Mount Teide
Even if you didn’t mean to get this mountain in your snaps it has a habit of photobombing – it’s cap ‘peaking up’ in the background (pun intended). However, Mount Teide is so gorgeous and impressive that it’s the main subject of many a Tenerife Instagram post.
The main road that leads through Teide National Park is popular with cyclists, for quad bike tours, and a great place to take your hire car out for an utterly scenic drive.
You can follow the route all the way from the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on the east coast to Guia de Isora in the west, for ever-changing views of the peak as you go.
Los Gigantes
There are no more famous cliffs in Tenerife than Los Gigantes – the so-called giant ones. They start to make their appearance as you drive north up the winding coastal road from Alcala, so snaps from a distance are common.
For an up-close look, most Instagrammers head to one of the town’s three viewpoints. Other popular Instagram snaps are taken from the water, where you can get on even more personal terms, for a feeling of just how high the cliffs are.
Punta de Teno
Up in the most north-westerly point of Tenerife, Punta de Teno is a rugged and secluded spot, ripe for moody pics. A classically photogenic red and white striped lighthouse sits at the head of the peninsula, but just as many people choose to share seascapes on Instagram.
The different shades of the rocks here – from russet to charcoal – do all the work for you, so no filter is needed.
Playa Las Teresitas
There are so many beaches that get snapped in Tenerife, that it’s hard to pick just one. However, the hill above Playa Las Teresitas – Punta De Los Organos – gives the perfect vantage point from which to take Instagram-worthy shots.
Just north of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Playa Las Teresitas beach sweeps around in an arc with the small whitewashed village of San Andres at one end, and a breakwater that mirrors the outline of the sand.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnaval
The biggest Carnaval outside of Rio happens in Tenerife’s capital every February, so it’s no wonder there are more than a few Insta-snaps of it.
This colourful celebration attracts 250,000 revellers each year, who watch in wonder at the parades, dancers and costumes – which have a different theme each year – then stay for an after party.
Los Cristianos Carnaval comes a close second on Instagram. Held in March each year, it welcomes around 30,000 people to the streets.
