Plaza hotels are located in city business districts, and for this reason, you won’t find any in Cape Verde. Palace hotels offer ultimate, 5 star luxury on some of the best beaches.
For the family-friendly RIU Hotels, you can access the RiuLand service if you want some time away from the kids to relax! RiuLand is a hotel-run club for kids aged 4 to 12 years old. The kids are divided into two groups, ages 4-7 and 8-12 so that each group can take part in activities most suited to their age range and interests. Some of the RiuLand activities include:

RIU Touareg
The Riu Touareg is a 24H All Inclusive hotel with a vast outdoor area. The facilities include:

If you want a little peace and quiet, you can enjoy an Adults Only Deluxe Wing, which is exclusively for over 18s.
For those travelling with kids, there’s plenty to keep the young’ens entertained. Shows on the main stage have a family-friendly theme, with the kids themselves starring in weekly performances laid on by RiuLand kids’ club. There is also a daily activity schedule with lively activities and pirate-themed days.
RIU Palace Boavista
Riu Palace Boavista is a 24H All Inclusive Hotel which sits right on the beautiful beach of Praia das Dunas. As the name suggests, it’s also part of the Palace classification and its facilities include:
- Four swimming pools
- Swim up bars
- Gym
- Spa
- Three A La Carte restaurants plus main buffet restaurant
For that extra touch of luxury, guests can choose to stay in adults only double rooms which have a swim up feature. These rooms have a private pool accessible by guests staying in these villas, so you can open your eyes, step out of your patio doors and take a dip in the pool.
If you’re travelling to Riu Palace Boavista with children, there’s lots of entertainment to enjoy both at the property and on the beach. Beach sports include volleyball, kayaking or scuba diving, but it’s best to check age restrictions for these. If your little one is too young, they can enjoy RiuLand which is specifically aimed for their age group.
RIU Karamboa
Riu Karamboa is also 24H All Inclusive resort with plenty of family friendly facilities, including:
- Large swimming pool with adjoining whirlpool
- Swim up bar
- In-water sun loungers
- International buffet plus three themed restaurants
- Spa
- Packed shows and activity programme
There are plenty of organised daily activities for adults and children alike, as well as RiuLand club for the younger members of the family. Outdoor activities include tennis and volleyball, plus a playground for children.
If you want some alone time away from the kids, there are six bars for adults to enjoy, as well as evening entertainment and shows, plus a nightclub!
Sal
RIU Palace Santa Maria
Opening its doors in February 2021, the brand new Riu Palace Santa Maria is a 24H All Inclusive resort. It is part of Riu’s Palace classification and showcases features including:
- Six pools
- Swim up bars
- Five restaurants
- Spa
- Watersports
- On-the-beach location
This swanky new hotel has an abundance of facilities that are sure to be crowd pleasers. There’s an on-site waterpark with lots of slides for the kids, plus a hotel-run kids club for when you want some alone time!
For activity lovers, you can head to the beach where you can hire kayaks or learn how to windsurf. Other watersports are available depending on water conditions.
RIU Cabo Verde
Riu Cabo Verde is a 24H All Inclusive resort as well as being Adults Only. This great resort for couples, friends and solo travellers features:
- Two lake-sized pools
- Swim up bars
- Four restaurants
- Spa
- On-the-beach location
Live shows are performed on the outdoor stage at the neighbouring family-friendly Riu Funana, and a late-night dance soundtrack comes courtesy of the neighbouring property’s Pacha nightclub.
If you fancy releasing your inner child for the day, you’ll have access to the Splash Water World at Riu Palace Santa Maria.
RIU Funana
Riu Funana is a 24H All Inclusive hotel in a great location, with fantastic facilities for the whole family. These facilities include:
- Two large pools
- Swim up bar
- Four dining options
- Nightly al fresco shows
- Spa
Water babies won’t be disappointed here, with a huge main pool that’s lined with sun loungers. There’s also a children’s splash pool with a handful of slides, and if you fancy taking a dip in the sea, the beach is only 300m away.
Outside on the terrace in the evenings, the entertainment is led by a lively entertainment team, with showcases for local bands. If you fancy dancing the night away, there’s also an on-site nightclub.
