Despite being one of the country’s finest cities, Valencia may not be the first choice that springs to mind when British travellers consider cheap holidays in Spain – yet this destination has it all.
Valencia holidays combine the very best of a Mediterranean city break with a beach holiday, allowing the visitor to experience incredible historical and cultural attractions, while still having plenty of scope for leisure and relaxation.
Found on the south-eastern coast of Spain, Valencia is the third largest city in the country but has not sacrificed any charm or sense of community. The ancient and rich history of the city has led to it being a place packed with gorgeous architecture, impressive monuments and lovely parks – the most impressive of all being the huge park that runs through the middle of the city, following the course of a long-dried out river bed. The park contains sports courts, botanic gardens, picnic areas, cafés and cycle paths, plus a child’s adventure playground like no other, with a giant Gulliver tied to the ground with rope ladders and rigging – just perfect for hordes of “Lilliputian” kids to swarm over!
Another great place for all the family is the City of Arts and Sciences. This conglomeration of futuristic buildings houses an opera house and concert hall, plus the largest aquarium in Europe, with daily dolphin shows, beluga whales and much more.
After all the thrills and spills, why not fuel the furnace with some of the delicious cuisine of Valencia? The region is famed as the home of paella, and there are some truly amazing restaurants specialising in this dish. A great mid-morning snack beloved of Valencians is also churros (fried sweet dough) dipped in melted chocolate, so be sure you’ve a long walk planned afterwards.
Miles of white sandy beaches with great restaurants and good facilities are also just a short car or bus ride away, and with warm temperatures for most of the year, cheap holidays in Valencia are very unlikely to disappoint any kind of traveller.
