My partner and I have just returned from the truly beautiful island of Madeira. After the recent flooding activity we were unsure on what to expect from the scenery of the island but to be honest, you wouldn’t even think that anything had happened. The authorities have done a tremendous job of restoring everything.
We were met by our Thomson rep on arrival. She was lovely as well as being very knowledgeable and informative on the island. She took us to our hotel the ‘Hotel Savoy Gardens’. This is a Thomson Gold property which consists of accommodation available to adults only. It was so very peaceful and luxurious.
The hotel was amazing, and although I wasn’t so sure of someone’s choice to paint the edifice pink, within, it was very classily furnished. It offered everything you could possibly as for, and the facilities were second to none. We found the hotel staff polite, friendly, cheerful and they were always smiling. They were so willing to go out of their way to make your stay perfect.
The area of Funchal was fantastic and is surprisingly very popular with people who enjoy a spot of fishing. The majority of people here come from the cruise ships as many of the cruise ships dock here for the day. We however were here for a week and we are very pleased we did stay here as it was a fabulous place.
This Portuguese island really is the best place to travel right now as the recent activities have put a slight dent in the tourism industry, resulting in a sharp decline in prices in an attempt to entice tourists back to the area. I would recommend this destination to everyone except holiday makers with very small children as it offers very few family activities.
We will most definitely be travelling back to this wonderful island of Madeira again and hopefully very soon and we wouldn’t hesitate in travelling back to this stunning hotel.
